The unprecedented situation of COVID-19 has changed the lives of everyone. As containment efforts continue, schools remain quiet and empty. Now more than ever, we need insight from researchers, scholars, and practitioners like you to rekindle the recovery and growth of the early childhood education industry. It is crucial to act jointly as educators by supporting education initiatives and communities, ensuring parents and educators the resources they need during this difficult time.

I am constantly inspired by the educators that are going the extra mile to adapt and make the most of the current situation. Motivated by these individual efforts, UWEEO, together with JCEG, is hosting the 2020 United World Early Childhood Education Online Symposium. It is an honor for me to help curate this event, which will take place every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from May 15 to June 15. This event is open to all parents and educators in China and those who are interested in early childhood education. In an effort to reach a larger audience, there will be no registration fee charged.

JCEG is a top-tier education group headquartered in Beijing with over 500 campuses including childcare centers, preschools, STEAM training programs, and international schools. It is also an online education content provider with more than 80,000 active users. This year, our event will enjoy full media coverage and is expected to have more than one million viewers per session. We would like to invite educators from around the world to take the initiative to share their expertise on the future of early childhood education. As global educators, we are all in this together.

We would like to officially invite you to join us online for this event. If interested, please reply with your preferred date and an abstract of your presentation. The symposium has been developed to host one speaker per session to introduce hot topics in education such as: Waldorf education, the Reggio Emilia approach, Sudbury School or Montessori education, home parenting, or the latest research findings in your field of expertise. Details will follow regarding the installation of the necessary live streaming software and assistance will be provided during testing and the actual streaming session. We can also provide real-time interpretation if needed.

Disease knows no borders, nor should education.

We look forward to meeting you at this year’s United World Early Childhood Education Online Symposium.

Professor of Applied Psychology, New York University

Clancy Blair is a developmental psychologist who studies self-regulation in young children. His primary interest concerns the development of cognitive abilities referred to as executive functions and the ways in which these aspects of cognition are important for school readiness and early school achievement. He is also interested in the development and evaluation of preschool and elementary school curricula designed to promote executive functions as a means of preventing school failure. In 2002, Blair and his colleagues at Penn State University and at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill received funding from the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development for a longitudinal, population-based study of family ecology and child development beginning at birth. In his part of the project, Blair is examining interaction between early experiential and biological influences on the development of executive functions and related aspects of self-regulation. Ultimately, Blair and his colleagues plan to follow this sample through the school years and into young adulthood. Prior to coming to NYU, Blair spent ten years as an assistant and then associate professor in the department of Human Development and Family Studies at Penn State. He received his doctorate in developmental psychology and a master's degree in public health from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 1996.
